Last years version of the Rangers, long gone at this stage, did even more to hide the lack of scoring in the man advantage by shutting things down in the defensive zone by literally sacrificing the body on not only every shift almost every shot. They also had an amazing habit of out scoring opponents significantly in the first (I think there was a run of games last year that they had out scored their opponents 22-6 over a 10-15 game period) they also led the league (not sure for how long) in first period fights. They were a team that had bought into a ststem and became more than the sum of their parts. This years version although on paper a more talented team, even more so after the deadline with the pick ups of a couple first rounders, appear at times to not only be tired physically but tired mentally as well. Torts hands on approach of being judge/jury/executioner as regards ice time, provided results last year but has worn his core group down in this rigorous, playoff like scheduled season. The lack of a second assisant bench coach and his unwillingness to hire one have taken a toll on a em team that we all expected more out of.
