Game 11 Preview: Lightning at Rangers

The Lightning bring their electric offense to MSG tonight to take on your New York Rangers. The Blueshirts look to get over the .500 hump for the first time in 2013 and to do it they will rely on back up goalie Martin Biron. Biron was Bir-illiant last time vs the Bolts and will need to be again tonight.

The NYR will be led J.T. Miller and Chris Kreider (combined 3 goals this season) but should be led by Brad Richards and Rick Nash (combined 4 goals this season.)

And a child shall lead them. What's with this stupid pose NHL Draft day staff?

What’s with this stupid pose NHL Draft day staff?

Aaahhh, that’s where it comes from.
Seems legit.

To grab two points tonight, the Rangers will need to play a similar game to the one they played last time against Tampa. They’ll need to avoid taking penalties and get in on the forecheck, while limiting time and space for the Lightning’s forwards in the NYR zone. Biron will need to be strong in net again and a power play goal would be nice, but so would a ham sandwich.

More importantly and more worrisome is that the Rangers aren’t scoring goals. The Blueshirts’ offense, and the power play component of it, was their Achilles’ heel last year and was supposed to be improved over the summer (Hey Nash, hey!) Alarmingly they have scored only 24 in 10 games in 2013.

A quick check of the math shows that they are averaging… not very many goals.
