The Rangers host the Capitals and the once mighty Alex Ovechkin tonight at MSG. Like his Capitals squad, Ovechkin has gotten off to a terrible start this season with only 5 goals and 10 points total. Ovi lugs his gigantic contract and rapidly downward trending ofensive production to the World’s Most Famous Arena to take on the Blueshirts.
The Russian sniper’s play has been deteriorating the past few seasons. Ovechkin, the two-time MVP was once the best player in the world, but now is not at that level. He is still a formidable threat, but no where near the threat he once was.
Ovechkin’s contract is staggering. He will be paid 9 million next year and then 10 million per for the next seven years after that. His contract is so ridiculous, it almost makes Brad Richard’s deal look like a bargain. Almost.
Richards and the Rangers need a win tonight. The Caps, currently dead last in the Eastern Conference, are terrible.
The NYR should be going for their 5th win in a row, but for some strange reason Torts felt the need to over-coach against the Isles and tinker with the lineup. Apparently, either Brian Boyle was amazing in practice during the three game winning streak, or Kreider was terrible in those games. In hindsight, the move to give Hank a rest and play Martin Biron was an awful one as well.
Kreider may or may not be in the lineup tonight, because Rick Nash may or may not be concussed thanks to a dirty hit from elbows-first thug Milan Lucic two games ago. If Nash is significantly hurt, that will be a massive blow to the Blueshirts. Hopefully, we will be in the lineup along with Kredier.
And hopefully the coach will stop messing with the kid, and hopefully the coach will find a power play for feck sake!
